My dad had often told me the wonders of Cannery Pier Hotel- and I was still blown away when I arrived.
The hotel is luxury combined with being boutique-y, unique, and an adventure. The lobby is beautifully constructed and a wonderful place to sit and read with a great view. The spa is open 24/7 so I was able to take a late night Jacuzzi- which was the perfect way to relax after a long drive from the Olympic peninsula. I took a warm bath in one of the claw-footed bathtubs, which I thought was very cool. And the shower had granite backings which I found were a great touch.
The beds were very comfortable and I slept very cozily. We left the electric fireplace on throughout the night and kept the window open where we could hear the waves.
When we arrived I was so excited to see two huge ships passing just underneath the beautiful Astoria bridge! And just a stones through away from where I stood in the lobby. Which was a beautiful lobby. The architecture here was very well thought through and obviously created with love.
Finally, the staff were so friendly and eager to help. After taking cookies I was offered wine or another beverage. In the morning the front desk staff helped us with other plans and complications. The always had an open ear and were very professional yet friendly.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
"Weather No Stars, Hotel 5 Stars"
This was our first trip to Astoria and the weather did not cooperate. We were there for two nights but we had rain most of the time and the temp was a little chilly. I had read about Astoria in a book about the fur trade in America and actually being there verified much of what I had read. It's a neat little town and we plan to go back, hopefully to better weather. But the hotel is great. We were greeted and even though we were late for the wine hour, we were provided with wine for our first night. It was a very good Oregon Pinot. The staff were very cooperative in our every request and the room and entire hotel was very clean. The beds were very comfortable and being able to step out on the balcony and get a close-up view of ships was really neat. The room was quite for sleeping and we felt refreshed each morning. The morning breakfast was very good and the fact that fruit was always available was a nice bonus. We will be going back to Astoria and the Cannery Pier will be our base camp.
"THE PLACE to stay in Astoria"
A spur of the moment trip to the coast during a week of beautiful weather turned out to be amazing and this hotel was great. Excellent bed, gorgeous bathroom, everything on the room was just right, even the binoculars provided!
I applaud the hotel for not using Styrofoam or plastic. They offer a wine and cheese happy hour with real dishes and glasses. Same for the breakfast! It can be done! Maybe some of those hotel chains that offer similar breakfast menus for hotels of comparable size can take notice and care for our environment better. Plus, it is nicer for us guests. Well done Cannery Pier!!!
"Simply the best"
My Wife and I stayed here for one night for our 30th wedding anniversary, and to say we were impressed is an understatement. I am UK had chosen the hotel based solely on Trip Advisor reviews, knowing that we would be somewhere in there Washington / Oregon area for the day of our anniversary.
I mentioned on the booking that we were celebrating and we were delighted to receive the congratulation of the staff when we booked in and found a wonderful hand written note and a gift from the Management in our room - a brilliant, and well appreciated, touch.
From our experience, there is nothing negative to say about the hotel at all - the luxurious rooms with their balconies and excellent fittings are superb - the little touches like binoculars to watch the ships and the sea lions from your balcony, the daily shipping list provided by reception, the DIRECTV channels, the fantastic bed and bathroom all fit in with the quality the hotel exudes.
We enjoyed the salmon and cheese reception and were delighted when the reception staff gave us a selection of menus from local restaurants - they made the booking for us and offered to provide transport in one of their vintage cars, but the restaurant we chose was the Bridgewater Bistro, which is only a short walk down the pier.
The continental breakfast was also first class.
I rarely submit five star reviews on Trip Advisor, but this hotel is well worth every one of the five.
"Room with a View"
Visited Astoria and stayed two nights at the Cannery Pier Hotel with my daughter. She is from Portland and I am from Upstate NY. This hotel was amazing! The view of the River and Bridge were surreal. The shipping vessels that passed seemed magical out our window and so close! The room itself was exceptional. I cannot find anything negative to say about it! The hotel staff was very accommodating. The wine, cheese and salmon hour for free were a great and classy touch. We both had a SPA treatment and were pampered. We also used the FREE car service in their antique autos to go to dinner and although we stayed at the Fort George Brewery past their service time a cab was called and promptly arrived and to top it off the hotel staff came out and paid the cab fare!!! We would love to stay here again anytime!
"Don't miss this experience"
We have stayed at the Cannery Pier three times now and will be returning again in a week or so. We have travelled a good deal around the US and Europe. This is an exceptional hotel which offers the amazing experience of being on the mouth of the great Columbia River, watching majestic tankers move right outside your window. The staff is among the finest we have encountered. The rooms are comfortable and quite lovely. Astoria itself is a quaint town offering a terrific Maritime Museum which helps create an understanding of the history and the power of the Columbia as it opens into the Pacific Ocean. There are also excellent restaurants which focus on the bounty of the river and the ocean. Don't miss a stay at this hotel.
"Completely wowed by our experience here"
My Boyfriend and i decided on a last minute trip to Astoria, OR for the weekend. I usually like to stay in B&Bs for a more unique experience, but because our plans were so last minute, they were all booked up. A friend recommended the Cannery Pier Hotel, and luckily they had one room left. We stayed in a pet-friendly suite on the 2nd floor. It was a little more pricey than a standard room, but goodness, was it amazing! I was concerned that pet-friendly might mean pet-stained, or smells like pets, but that was not the case at all. There was not as much as one piece of fur to be found. The bathroom had a big shower with dual shower heads, plus a Jacuzzi tub with views of the river from tub. We had a mini-kitchen which we didn't use, but looked very clean and nice. The balcony overlooking the river was amazing! We could see the bridge and all of the boats right from our room! We also had a fireplace in our room which we snuggled in front of before bed. Very romantic!
Besides the perfectly clean room and incredible location, it was all of the little extras that made this one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. First of all, they have a small fleet of classic cars with a chauffeur on staff that will drive you to dinner and back at no extra charge. We were thrilled to get a great restaurant recommendation from our driver, and be dropped off in style in a 1952 robin's egg blue Cadillac. The driver even let me sit in the driver's seat to pose for a photo.
Another big plus is the free beach cruiser bikes they offer. We took the bikes out on the river walk that runs along the river and had an absolute blast! They had a complimentary sauna and hot tub, which was very fun. They also offer a great breakfast buffet, free wine, cheese, and salmon from 5-6pm, and complimentary cookies at 8pm.
My boyfriend and I both agreed that the Cannery Pier Hotel itself was our favorite thing about our trip to Astoria. It was absolutely worth the extra cost, and we can't wait to go back!!
"One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at!"
Wow! This is an amazing hotel. The views are spectacular, the staff is friendly, and the amenities are top notch. Overall, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.
The hotel is located in an old Cannery on the Columbia River. It is literally located on the water. The hotel feels brand new. It is extremely clean and all of the decor feels fresh and new. The staff was wonderful and very helpful at recommending different places to eat. The hotel runs a wine and cheese reception in the evenings (5-6pm during our stay) and they also have a continental breakfast in the morning. The reception was very nice and the views from the lobby are great. The decor is sort of a modern look with old school flair. The reception was a good time and we got to meet a lot of fellow travelers who were also enjoying the wine.
The rooms are also great. Each room has a balcony with a spectacular view of the Columbia River and nearby bridge. The room has a nice cast iron tub with separate shower. The "heat" in the room is provided via a gas fireplace. Very cool. The only downside to the room was the temperature. My wife and I had a challenging time regulating the temperature in the room. There is no air conditioning...just a fan that brings in outside air. Of course, in October, this was not an issue. Not sure about the summer months. Overall, the room was very nice...one of the best I have stayed in.
The hotel runs complimentary taxi service to town via antique classic cars. We got to ride in an old Cadillac. The driver was always on time and provided excellent service. We tipped the driver a couple of dollars for the service. This was a cool perk and we were thankful to have this service.
My wife and I are sad that we only booked one night at this hotel. We would certainly stay here again for a multi-night stay. The reviews on Trip Advisor do this hotel justice. I highly recommend this hotel.
"It has all been said but I'll say it again..Awesome Waterfront Hotel!"
Everything good that has been said about this place is true.We stayed in the off season and got a very good price. To top it off it was pet friendly which was wonderful. We often have to pass on nice places like this because of our dog. Here we were all welcome and just loved our stay here. Being way out on the end of a pier facing the water was an incredible experience. The ship and boat traffic going by our balcony only a few hundred feet away was an amazing thing too see. We've never stayed in a place like this before. The rooms were upscale with quality ammenities. The King bed was very comfortable and we spent a quiet, peaceful night on the waterfront. We would recommend this place to all who visit the historic town of Astoria , Oregon. We must also mention the Bow Picker across from the Maritime Museum. This is a no frills fish and chips joint that knows how to fry good fish. Our dog Buddy liked it too. All in all a wonderful stay out on the old pier at a boutique hotel like none other. Friendly folks at the front desk welcomed us.
"Amazing View and setting"
This hotel is exactly as pictured on their website. We had a corner suite room that was spacious and had amazing views of the river and sunset. Ships went right by our room. We all enjoyed the afternoon wine/cheese/juice for kids reception and the evening cookies. The nearby riverwalk was handy as well.
This is just a lovely place to stay. While a bit more expensive than your average nicer hotel it is well worth it. All rooms have a view of the water and are very nice. If so inclined you can open the shutters in the bath and have a soak in the tub while watching the boats. The beds are comfortable and we had a roll away which was an actual bed, not a folded up cot with a crummy mattress. Rooms have fireplaces and window seats with binoculars for boat watching. In the evening there is wine and cheese and the breakfast was very good and fresh.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Cannery Pier a couple of weeks ago as part of an extended driving vacation. Had we known better we would have stayed longer. Of all our nights on the road the one night at Cannery Pier was the best; the absolute best. Should we ever again have cause to visit Astoria you can be assured we will stay at the Cannery Pier, and we are certainly going to tell others who might come your direction.

"One of the most memorable hotels ever"
This review is very late -- DH and I stayed here for my 30th birthday back in January 2011. But every time we go on vacation, we talk about and compare the hotel we're currently staying at... to others we've stayed at in our past. And every single time, we keep coming back to the Cannery Pier Hotel. This place is something you just have to experience. It left an indelible impression on us. From the close proximity of the passing ships...to the bridge shrouded in fog right outside your room... plus the warm reception from hotel staff and the wine and cheese reception in the evening...I'm not sure this place could get much better. When we came back from our visit, I told my whole family that it's just one of those places that you have to stay at before you die. I can't recommend it highly enough.
"Fantastic location and view, great service, a real gem"
We stayed there for two nights, recommended by a friend. The location is fantastic, on an isolated pier right under the bridge with perfect view. Service was great, our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable, the entire place feels brand new. The staff was very friendly and we felt went out of their way to help us.
I would consider it a great value, we will go back there soon.
"A beautiful place that treats every guest as a special friend returning home."
Cannery Pier Hotel knows how to make your stay memorable. Upon arrival to their beautiful, spacious lobby and welcome area we noticed that wine and cheese were being served to everyone. This light snack in the afternoon was just the beginning. After dropping off our bags in our room we checked out the great view of the Columbia River. Later that night we discovered that you can enjoy this view from practically any place in the room, including the claw-foot tub for two.
We got personalized recommendations for places to eat dinner and menus of local restaurants and then they even took us there. Yes, that is right, we got to ride in the 52 Cadillac out to dinner and with a phone call they picked us up again, for free and with a smile. We couldn't stop grinning!
Upon return from dinner we noticed fresh baked chocolate cookies at the reception as we treated ourselves to dessert. You are starting to get the picture, I think. At Cannery Pier the entire staff makes you feel totally welcome and then surprises you with beautiful bonuses at so many points during your stay that by the time you leave you feel like royalty.
The next morning we took their complimentary cruisers on a short bike ride into downtown along the waterfront trail.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be treated like a very special guest. Your room rate covers all these extras and you feel like part of the family!
TripAdvisor Review (May 2011)
What a surprise,
We have to say our stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel was a pleasant surprise. Though our daughters were ill with bad colds during our stay, the hotel was the bright spot in our visit. For them, taking a hot bath in the in-room Jacuzzi was definitely recuperative. We had a corner one bedroom suite which was spacious and comfortable. The view was spectacular, and having the huge container ships passing so close was special. We took advantage of taking the complementary 1939 Cadillac "limo" into town, and our host took us on a quick trip around downtown pointing out the sights before arriving at the restaurant. When our meal was complete, the restaurant called the hotel and we soon had our ride home. A totally great one-night stay...far too short! We'll definitely be back!

I just wanted to send you a note to thank you for making my stay so special. I wanted to do something special for my sisters birthday and you helped me do it. From the room to all the extra things you did. From finding where my flowers were to helping me with dinner reservations. My sister told me she will never forget this special birthday. I will recommend your hotel to everyone.

Dear Mr. West,
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and commend you on one incredible hotel! My husband and I were unable to return to our normal vacation spot at Mt. Hood and so we decided to try Astoria and chose the Cannery Pier Hotel! What a treat! your staff is one of the most friendly, caring, professional groups I have ever met. From your front desk, to the housekeeping, to the breakfast hostess, to the chauffer, everyone was so friendly, caring and ready to serve. You can tell they really love what they do! You have done an incredible job! Our room was perfect and we enjoyed the extra too, especially the bikes! Thank you for an incredible weekend and for the champagne too! We look forward to visiting again!

I wanted to get away for a couple of days and checked out Trip Advisor and then the website of the Cannery Pier Hotel. We booked and after our stay we have to say everything was excellent. Wonderful staff, the wine reception was great, the rooms was very clean and very comfortable. We will be back!
Dear Don West,
I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay last month at your hotel. We will be back and we are telling people about your wonderful place and hope they will go as well.
The room was great, the service was just unbelievably nice and we felt very welcome.
Thank you so much for running such a wonderful place,

Good Morning Mr West,
Your facilities are amazing, from the river views to the plush decor of your rooms. But the reason I am taking the time to write you is to let you know about the amazing service I received over and over during my time there. Justin, Sally, Kathleen, and Jaime went above and beyond to make each weeks visit special. They each knew me by name and made a special effort to check in with me each time I saw them to make sure everything was meeting my expectations. Jaime even looked ahead on the schedule for the days that I was there to bring me and iron & ironing board prior to my calling and requesting. It is unusual these days to receive this kind of special service and they deserve to be commended.
Thanks to all for everything!

My husband and I just spent our anniversary at the Cannery Pier Hotel on May 16th. We love your hotel, it is just amazing to enjoy the beautiful river views and the beauty of the room. Your staff are always the best, they are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need.
I called ahead of time to request a bottle of champagne in our room to surprise my husband. The presentation was beautiful and the champagne was great. We wanted to thank you for the extra special touch and for the great service we know we will have. We cannot wait to visit again.
Thank you so much for helping make our stay so special.

Great view, great staff, no fake smiles, just excellent service. You could tell the owner cares about every detail, made with love of the craft, amazing experience.
First Timers, April 2010
I am writing to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at Cannery Pier Hotel for three nights earlier this month. There is an old expression: "You only have one chance to make a good first impression." When my husband booked the room our reservation with Allison he was very impressed by her efficient, but welcoming manner. She was also very helpful in following up on a problem we had at one of the local restaurants as it had been recommended by the hotel. We found this same standard of food service with the rest of the staff & though I don’t recall their names, it included everyone at the front desk, the driver of you vintage car & the maid who cleaned our suite.
Cannery Pier Hotel is first class in every way & we shall look forward to our next visit. Our warmest regards & best wishes for your continued success.
Mr. & Mrs. James, (April 2010)
We had a perfect experience once again at the Cannery Pier Hotel. We always do. Deanna was simply splendid about helping us during our stay. We are grateful to her too.
Sue and John, (April 2010)
Beautiful Facility unique great location and friendly helpful staff. Thank you very much.
We found you on the internet and found the service excellent the location amazing and we would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
We wish to thank you and your staff for the great weekend at the Cannery Pier Hotel.
You do an outstanding job of making sure your guests feel special when they stay with you. The two ladies who are school teachers get A pluses at the front desk. Sorry, we only remember Lori Carlson's name because it is close to my name. Also, the young lady who checked us out also represents you at the hotel's finest. In addition, the two gentlemen "working in the kitchen, etc." are great.
We thank you and your staff for remembering our wedding anniversary with a bottle of wine.
Lorilee, (January 2010)
We stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel this past December and what a deal. We had heard about this hotel from friends and never really thought too much about it except one of our neighbors gets their news letter and told us about package they were running. We checked in and I have to tell you that our friends were right. From the moment we arrived till the time we left everything was just great. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I am amazed at the wonderful staff. They are friendly, efficient and seem very interested in us having a good time while we were there. We loved the ship traffic and really enjoyed reading the book (part of the package). I highly recommend the Cannery Pier Hotel to everyone I know just like my neighbor did for me.

Thank you for a great visit...
We stayed at CPH for the first two nights of our Oregon Honeymoon, and there could not have been a better way to start the journey. After a long day of traveling from the East Coast, we arrived just in time for our massages at the adjoining spa. What an indulgence! After 12 hours of travel, nothing could have been better. But then, we walk out of the massage to the wine and cheese reception in the lobby. NOW it was perfect: a glass of wine, seats on the deck jutting out into the Columbia, the sun playing on the mountains across the river. After a wonderful meal at the nearby Bistro and a good night’s sleep, we spent the next morning exploring Astoria thanks to the easy ride on your complimentary cruiser bikes. Such fun. Thank you to the entire staff for a great visit. We will be back.
Matt & Greta, Astoria, New York (September 2009)
Good Morning Mr. West,
I just wanted to take a quick moment to share with you what I feel was a great experience I recently had during a stay with the Cannery Pier Hotel.
I arrived just short of missing my colleagues that were also staying at the hotel before they left for dinner at 6pm sharp. As I was checked in by David, he let me know they had gone to dinner at the Bistro and provided directions on walking there. After checking in, I quickly unpacked and then made my way across the parking lot to the Bistro to join my colleges.
To my surprise, they weren't there. The manager at the Bistro mentioned he had seen a large group of people board the trolley. No big deal. I would just get dinner on my own. I began walking back to the hotel deciding if I wanted to order in or go somewhere else. While walking back, David pulled up in one of the hotels classic cars. He immediately apologized for the confusion in thinking they had gone to dinner at the Bistro. He stated he had confirmed with another hotel employee that they had taken the trolley to the Seafood Center.
He exited the vehicle and came about saying he would drive me there and to add effect, opened the back door as to chauffeur me the entire way, once again aplogizing and letting me know it was his job to make it right for me - I didn't even believe that there was a wrong, but now I definitely was grateful and felt it was an above and beyond service experience that was being provided. The rest of the entire staff was fantastic as well, but David's service merits additional mention and I hope you are pleased and proud of this service experience by one of your employees.
I look forward to hopefully another future stay with you.
Thank you and best of continued success to the hotel.

We had not planned on staying more than one night at anyone place during our motorcycle tour of the Pacific coast, but after staying one night at the Cannery Pier Hotel we changed our plans. The views, the staff, the accommodations and the old cars were awesome!
We will be looking forward to our next visit at The Cannery Pier Hotel.

Dear Cannery Pier Hotel Management and Staff,
As I sit in my room, enjoying the last few hours of my visit in Astoria, I am compelled to share with you my gratitude for the experience of staying at the Cannery Pier Hotel. As an avid writer for www.tripadvisor.com, I also shared the details of my experience in a written review of the hotel on that website.
Arriving at 11pm on a Tuesday night, the Cannery Pier Hotel was a beacon of beauty along the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. Our arrival, although late in the evening, was greeted with a smile. The architecture and unique style of the hotel are beautiful, matched only by its great service and attention to detail by the staff. Having traveled many places around the world and visiting many hotels along the way, I can honestly say that our stay at the Cannery Pier Hotel was absolutely exceptional by all standards. The staff, particularly Lori and Lisa, made it their personal mission to accommodate any request we had, including researching hiking trails, making all of our dinner reservations, bringing us cookies and drinks...and they probably would have done our laundry had we asked. Most impressive was their response when I told them that my husband had not seen The Goonies, a great 1985 movie that was filmed in Astoria. Lori called every place in the county, drove around on her time off, and finally sent her son out on a mission to find the movie...which he did! We enjoyed watching the movie on the 2nd floor of the hotel where there is a DVD player and great, comfy chairs. As if that were not enough, Lori brought us some fresh baked cookies while we were watching the movie. There are many examples just like this, where Lori and Lisa (and the other staff) were graciously attentive, as if we were the only guests in the hotel. The hotel was full, but we never noticed because of the service of the staff.
Each morning, there is a great breakfast served in the lobby (waffles, hard
boiled eggs, donuts, instant oatmeal, fruit salad, bagels, muffins, juice).
There is coffee available 24 hours per day. At 5pm, wine, cheese, snacks
are served followed by fresh baked cookies every evening. There is a
newspaper at your door each morning.
Our favorite service at the hotel are the old, fancy cars that are available
to take guests to and from their dinner reservations. Each night, we
enjoyed being chauffeured to and from dinner by very personable drivers
(Devin and David) who are eager to share their knowledge of things to do in
Astoria...tip them well! Reserve your time in the morning to have access to
the busiest hours in the evening.
We also enjoyed the use of the fitness facility and the laundry facility.
Although we chose to run the waterfront and hike the mountain trails as
recreation, there are guests who really enjoyed using the old-fashioned
bikes located on the deck. Finally, our room was perfect. The comfortable
bed, fire place, bath tub with views of the river, and very spacious sitting
area all made our brief time in our room very pleasurable.
What was a 2 night stay, turned into 6 night stay. We loved Astoria and our
experience at the Cannery Pier Hotel greatly contributed to our fabulous
getaway. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Astoria. This hotel
is above reproach and its staff goes above and beyond the call of duty to
deliver exceptional service and a personal touch that is matched by no other
travel experience I have had...it's simply spectacular! Lori, Lisa, Devin,
and David are amazing ambassadors for the Cannery Pier Hotel and Astoria!
Their professionalism and service-oriented demeanor is unique...they are a
delight and certainly make the difference between a good and an exceptional
Thanks for a great visit,
Allyson (August 2009)
I just wanted to let you know how great our stay with at CPH was last week.
You have great people who took excellent care of us, especially Lori who made white chocolate chip cookies just for me/us. We got back to the hotel after eating and walking around late (10:30- 11:00 PM), when we walked into the lobby we smelled cookies and asked if we could have one Lori said someone just ate the last one. But she turned the oven back on and made a couple just for us.
The Only thing different I would like to see, is some recycling containers (or combination trash/recycling containers) near the main entry. I recognize you deal with people from all over and everyone has a different comfort level & understanding of recycling, so it may be an up hill battle.

The Cannery Pier Hotel is a GREAT PLACE to stay that we lucked into on our Astoria trip! They are pet friendly and have outstanding facilities and service! Sara-Bella ( our Pomeranian) even got her own basket of complimentary goodies!!! The freighters and barges go right by your window and the hotel provides a list of ships coming in and going out. There is a fireplace and a claw foot tub that add to the experience. The staff could not have been nicer! Very Kool!!!

It is not often that I take the time to sit down and write a note giving feedback about much of anything now and days. It seems as though most places you go to have a very C grade customer service attitude. Fine is just that...fine. I have worked in the service industry for over 20 years myself and have never felt that fine is fine.
That brings me to your hotel. My husband and I spent last Saturday and Sunday nights at the Hotel. It was our first time going away just the two of us for more than an overnight by ourselves in 12 years. Needless to say, we were hoping to have a fabulous time in the short time alotted. We could not have picked a better destination.
From the moment we checked in till the moment we checked out, we felt every bit the important person and pampered guest that we had hoped for. The room was simply stunning. The view of the river from every place in the room was just fantastic. After getting settled we went down for the lovely wine, cheese and lox reception where we also took the opportunity to make dinner reservations and sign up for the chauffeur service to our destination. What luxury being driven to dinner and having David waiting for us after we had finished! It was truly my husbands favorite part of the weekend. He loved the car!
All of your staff went above and beyond for us, and there was always a feeling of calm and joy in the main areas of the Hotel. We also very much enjoyed the mini museum on the 2nd floor. It is always lovely to see history in such a wonderful way.
I have not stopped talking about our trip with friends and colleagues. We will happily return to your fine establishment at some point and continue to sing its praises to anyone who will listen.
Thank you for putting the A+ back into Customer Service.
